Halifax Bank TV Advert
Last October Sensei Antonio was contacted by a casting company working on an advert in pre-production for the Halifax bank. They were looking for Karate practitioners to be a part of it and they arranged to come to our Old Street dojo to see SKL in action. After chats, screen tests, being auditioned and ‘penciled in’, a few were chosen to take part in the advert. Mostly, SKL were used along with extras and fellow karate practitioners to create background action for the short scenes that made up the advert. Despite being asked to choreograph many of the routines being filmed, Sensei Antonio was asked to swap his Black Belt for a tracksuit to take the part of a ‘Karate Parent’
One member of our team however was given a starring role in proceedings – Amin our club captain was our hero, having a featured part ( look from 12 seconds). This required him to put his skills to good use shooting a scene sparring with the main character as he explains: – “This was such a great day for the SKLers involved and a great opportunity to promote the club in general. We were able to meet and work with people from other clubs, Sensei Antonio choreographed routines with large numbers of people with varying skill sets, and we even managed to get a few of the actors interested in starting to learn Karate. It was also an example of how Karate practice can be beneficial out of the dojo, adding to the C.Vs of those taking part and enabling them to make a small amount of money too, as well as having a lot of fun and Kata practice in between the action!”
With the SKL participation in this advert our club gave the first steps on TV and hopefully another doors will open for future collaborations.
