We practice Dynamic Shotokan Karate from the Japanese Karate Association – the largest karate association in the world and the only legal entity recognized by the Japanese government for the promotion of karate. JKA Karate doesn’t concentrate on the sport side of karate but aims to balance body, mind and spirit to achieve strength, perseverance, patience – for self-mastering and confident character.
DBS – the term refers to Criminal Record Checks carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service. The DBS is an executive agency of the Home Office and provides access to criminal record information. Primarily, they are used by organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors, to make sure safe recruitment decisions are made by identifying candidates who are suitable for work that involves children or vulnerable adults.
The Practice of karate does not represent a big risk. A typical karate class may seem dangerous from the outside. Students are punching and kicking each other. However, a qualified karate teacher knows how to train students in the proper order. According to research done – participants in a karate class are statistically less likely to get hurt than participants in a golf tournament or road race.
In order to be able to teach karate, all candidates are submitted to an examination that checks if the knowledge acquired, is at the level required to the able to teach students under the rules and regulations of the Japan Karate Association. Every coach is submitted to a new examination every year to certified that the teaching techniques have been updated. SKL coaches have a remarkable passion and determination to pass on their knowledge to all students.
